AbstractWe have observed P Cygni with a spectral resolution of 12,000 in the wavelength range 4050 angstrom < lambda < 6780 angstrom with a fiber-linked echelle spectrograph. By averaging 30 spectra we achieved a S/N-ratio of greater-than-approximately 500. On this spectrum, many forbidden lines of [FeII] and the [NII]lambda-5755 line can clearly be seen. The [FeII]-lines are flat-topped with sharp edges, indicating a constant expansion velocity of 230 kms-1. [NII]lambda-5755 has a rounded profile. This line is probably formed closer to the star in the expanding part of the wind.
